Spring Garden Vineyard | Florida Muscadine U-Pick
I have to share the weekend adventure we had at a U-pick Muscadine Vineyard in DeLeon Springs, Florida. It was like a little slice of California in the heart of Central Florida (minus the wine - add a honey muscadine popsicle). They have gallon buckets and you get to roam the different vines of green and purple grapes. If you don’t know what muscadines taste like they have a thicker skin like a plum that is slightly tart with a very sweet juice, they also have seeds. The only way I can describe the flavor is they taste like the South. You just have to give them a try and what better way than right off the vine.
A few hints for the best trip:
Go early. Let’s get real that Florida heat in mid-summer is no joke. Add a touch of humidity and you got yourself a scorcher.
Wear a hat. Grapes need full sun, it is hot and sunny.
Bring cash. They do not accept cards!
Popsicles. Plan on trying one their sweet, honey, muscadine juice popsicles!
Jams. Plan on buying some delicious muscadine jam!
Seeds. Muscadine Grapes do have seeds.
You can find their hours and when the season is open here.
